This year’s theme is “Hear Us, Together We Rise.” Participants can register at camtsspli.ocde.us.
“Now more than ever, it is essential to focus on our educators as we learn together what it will take to move forward and create psychologically and physically safe spaces for adults and students to thrive in the future,” OCDE Learning Supports Director Dr. Jami Parsons said.
Hosted by OCDE, the Butte County Office of Education and the UCLA Center for the Transformation of Schools, the goal of the fifth annual PLI conference is to inspire and uplift educators with three days of keynote speakers, featured speakers and interactive breakout sessions tied to California’s Multi-Tiered System of Support, known as MTSS.
If you’re not familiar with MTSS, it’s a framework that aligns academic, behavioral, social-emotional and even mental health supports to meet student needs and close equity gaps, and in 2016 OCDE was selected as the lead agency to help scale it up statewide.
Based on the theme “All Means All,” MTSS provides opportunities for universal, supplemental and intensified supports, covering the broad spectrum of student needs.
“MTSS predates the pandemic, but the framework feels like it was made for this moment,” Orange County Superintendent Al Mijares said. “It can be thought of as a schoolwide commitment to a set of proven strategies that address academic, behavioral and social- emotional needs.”
Sessions at the 2022 Professional Learning Institute will focus on outcomes in the areas of knowledge and practices, equity and access, and school conditions and climate.
