A wildfire detection system created by a Newport Harbor High School graduate is moving from pilot testing to a larger deployment, marking a new milestone for technology designed to help firefighters detect wildfires before they spread.
The Orange County Department of Education will host the AI Forward Summit on Aug. 3, bringing together educators, administrators and education and technology leaders to explore practical applications of artificial intelligence in schools and prepare students for an AI-driven workforce.

More than 460 Orange County student innovators submitted 206 prototypes designed to address real-world challenges as part of the annual ocMaker Challenge. Thirty-seven teams from 20 schools earned first- through third-place awards and 16 special awards presented before an audience of more than 300 attendees.
175 Orange County students will be recognized for their creative inventions at the OcMaker Challenge Awards Ceremony livestream hosted by OC Pathways on Tuesday, May 19.
