Instagram post 2191581676878785455_1928089093 Orange County businesses learned how they can help equip students for careers transformed by automation, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies at the fifth annual OC Pathways Showcase held Tuesday at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin.

Since 2014, the OCDE-led initiative known as OC Pathways has connected educators with industry leaders to create coordinated career paths and work-based learning opportunities for students. 
The showcase highlighted these efforts and promoted new opportunities for businesses to partner with K-12 schools and community colleges.

Alvin is a Systems & Database Manager in the Information Technology Division with OCDE.⁣
⁣
One of Alvin’s primary responsibilities is to run and improve the network business systems used by the department and districts which include payroll, finance, timekeeping, student information systems and more. His goal along with his staff is to make sure that their clients, school districts and by extension the nearly 500,000 students enrolled in Orange County schools are supported through the use of technology. ⁣

When asked why he chose OCDE to work, he says, “It’s about the people. OCDE is a great place to build strong work relationships.”⁣

Since 1988, CHEP has been providing free resources to parents who choose to educate their children at home. The award-winning, state-funded independent study program offers curriculum under the guidance of credentialed teachers with the support of OCDE, serving more than 1,000 students from transitional kindergarten through eighth grade.

The goal is to empower students as advocates who can discuss the importance of census participation in their homes and communities. History teachers, social science teachers and elementary teachers will be introduced to curricular options that cover all grade levels, and math instructors will learn how to create lessons and assignments based on census data through the “Statistics in Schools” curriculum.
