Staff from OCDE’s ACCESS program along with members from OCDE’s Hospitality Committee on Wednesday distributed school supplies to students in need at Skyview school in Orange. With help and donations from OCDE staff and the local community, 45 families received backpacks, school supplies, fresh produce and groceries, Kindle devices, PPE supplies, and tasty treats.

This week, OCDE unveiled a toolkit with activities and resources designed to help schools host virtual events aligned with national #RedRibbonWeek. In light of #nationalbullyingpreventionmonth , OCDE today joined millions of people from across the country to celebrate #unityday While October may be the national month for raising awareness about bullying, OCDE’s Bullying Prevention team works year-round to support schools throughout Orange County with their efforts to provide a safe and positive environment for students, families and staff members. We talked with OCDE Administrator for Student Achievement and Wellness Nicole Savio Newfield, who shared information on some of the important virtual programs the team is offering for elementary and middle school students as well as parents. OCDE has partnered with @ochealth to hire a team o

OCDE has partnered with @ochealth to hire a team of qualified nurses who will be on-call outside of regular business hours to assist schools with isolation and quarantine protocols, disinfection instructions and other critical guidance. @ochealth has allocated federal CARES Act dollars to hire 30 nurses who will provide guidance to schools on weeknights and weekends. The event will premiere on our Facebook page and can also be viewed in the OCDE Newsroom (link in bio) and the City of Westminster's Facebook page as well.

Kindness Matters: Lilian Cho, an Amazing AUHSD Student!

Lilian Cho, a junior at Cypress High School, took it upon herself to start making hand-made face masks. Realizing that her grandmother and mother had underlying health conditions, she researched the best and safe masks to wear and was on her way. In addition, she wanted to make masks available to those who needed them most: the elderly, people at risk, and most importantly, our first responders.

Lilian made hundreds, which she donated to Cypress Police Department, the Cypress Senior Center, Senior Living facilities, and friends. Lilian also made meal donations to the OC Rescue Mission and dropped off masks to their facilities for the homeless.

In July, she designed a "wear your mask" button to start an awareness campaign in her community. She designed and had made 1,000 buttons. She also purchased 1,000 disposable masks, packaged them up, and passed them out to her Cypress Community, including fire departments, community centers, neighborhood business, and residential communities.

Lilian has spent countless hours on these projects and deserves to be recognized by her community. Way to go, Lilian! #kindnessonebillion

OCDE Facilities Services Supervisor Robert Martine

OCDE Facilities Services Supervisor Robert Martinez and the entire OCDE Facilities team have been working so hard to make sure that not only do our 27 school districts across the county, but our own OCDE special schools have the PPE and equipment needed to bring students and staff safely back to campus. Today, Robert and members of the OCDE facilites team, worked to prepare air purifying machines that will be distributed to all of OCDE’s ACCESS (Alternative, Community, and Correctional Education Schools and Services) sites.

Additionally, we’d like to thank all of the men and women who work around the clock – days, nights, and weekends – to keep our schools and workplaces clean and safe. On #custodialworkersrecognitionday and every day, we sure do appreciate each and every one of you!

While you might be familiar with the award-winning OC Pathways initiative, you might not know that one of the program’s biggest accomplishments over the last year has been the hiring of 14 career counseling coordinators – or CCCs – at almost every secondary school district in Orange County. CCCs assist with the alignment of CTE curriculum, activities and counseling efforts at both the middle school and high school level.
