The Huntington Beach Union High School District has tapped Dr. Clint Harwick to be its next superintendent.
Harwick, who has served as superintendent of Saddleback Valley Unified School District in south Orange County for the past six years, is expected to be approved by the Huntington Beach Union Board of Trustees at its Nov.15 meeting.
“The board is very pleased and excited about working with Dr. Harwick as superintendent,” HBUSD school board President Dr. Duane Dishno said.
Prior to leading Saddleback Valley, Harwick was superintendent of the Charter Oak Unified School District in Covina and the Rim of the World Unified School District, which is headquartered in the San Bernardino Mountains. He has also held several positions in the Claremont Unified School District, including director of classified personnel, director of alternative education, principal, assistant principal, dean of students, activities director, high school teacher and baseball coach.
“My aspiration is to bring my experience in fostering positive relationships that improve student performance to the Huntington Beach Union High School District,” Harwick said. “I have come to appreciate the important attributes that a strong educational system can offer a community.”
Harwick earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands, and he holds a master’s degree and a doctorate from Azusa Pacific University. He and his wife Lisa are residents of Newport Beach and have two sons.
Pending board approval, Harwick’s start date will be Jan. 1.
