School is back in session — for a handful of Orange County districts at least.
On Monday, Aug. 8, students began streaming back to the Fullerton, Savanna and Fullerton Joint Union High school districts, which were the first to officially kick off the 2016-17 school year. The Buena Park School District welcomed back students on Tuesday, Aug. 9 and the Centralia, Cypress and Anaheim Union High school districts started back up a day later.
If you’re surmising that schools are beginning a little sooner these days, you wouldn’t be wrong. While many campuses will open their gates in September, a number of districts in OC and beyond have shifted to pre-Labor Day starts, citing several factors — including the need to give students more time to prepare for AP tests and other endeavors that impact college admissions. Here’s a rundown of all school start dates in Orange County for the 2016-17 academic year. Note that these only apply to schools on the traditional calendar. For year-round start dates, be sure to check your local district’s website.
