Interpreters and Translators Conference flierThe two-day event is designed to support the work of bilingual staff, administrators, interpreters, translators, parent advocates and others seeking to ensure equal access for culturally and linguistically diverse students. Attendees will hear from renowned experts and learn how to enhance interpretation and translation services in schools.

Workshops will cover standards for interpretation and translation services, ethics for K-12 interpreters, consecutive and simultaneous skills development, and continuing education opportunities. All sessions will be in English.

Under the direction of Project Liaison Natalia Abarca, OCDE has built a countywide infrastructure to support language services, including a professional network to support educators. In addition to hosting trainings, the department has worked to establish common educational terminology, launched an awards program and organized the yearly conference to share new information and best practices.

The Interpreters and Translators Conference is hosted by the department’s Educational Services division and will take place at the Hilton Irvine Orange County Airport. Participants will also have an opportunity to take the American Translators Association (ATA) certification exam and earn credits.
