“Language access is more than words — it is dignity, opportunity and connection for every family and student we serve,” said Natalia Abarca, OCDE’s Language Services coordinator. “This is a special moment to honor the incredible gifts bilingual staff bring — their voices, their skills and the opportunities they create for our families and communities every day.”

International Translation Day is recognized annually on Sept. 30 to pay tribute to translators and interpreters around the world. According to the United Nations, the date was formally adopted in 2017 to acknowledge the contributions of language professionals in fostering global communication and understanding.

OCDE’s event will offer participants the chance to engage in conversations about how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of the profession, while also connecting with peers who share a commitment to breaking down language barriers.

The celebration precedes the department’s ninth annual Interpreters and Translators Conference, which will take place Oct. 3-4 at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa.
