This week, the OCDE received its first shipment of personal protective equipment from the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, or CalOES, to be distributed to school districts across Orange County.
CalOES, in partnership with the California Department of Education, will be providing school districts with an array of PPE including disposable and reusable masks, hand sanitizer, thermometers and face shields. The PPE will be allotted on a per-pupil, per-district basis as calculated using 2019-20 data on the number of students and on-campus staff including teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and auxiliary staff.
The procurement for Orange County school districts includes:
- 84,984 16.9 oz. bottles of hand sanitizer
- 8,640 N95 masks
- 648,000 adult and 544,000 child disposable masks
- 84,024 face shields
- 3,720 no-contact infrared thermometers
The OCDE Facilities, Maintenance and Operations team is currently working with districts across the county to arrange for pick-up of equipment this month to help provide a safe return to school for students and staff.
