A music teacher from the Santa Ana Unified School District was named one of 10 finalists nationwide for the 2020 Grammy Music Educator Award, presented by The Recording Academy and the Grammy Museum.
Victor de los Santos, director of bands for Santa Ana High School, was chosen out of more than 3,300 nominees from across the country for their significant and lasting contributions to their field.
This marks the the third year in a row that de los Santos has made it to the final round of competition.
The annual Music Educator Award recognizes teachers who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools.
“I am very honored to be a finalist for the 2020 Grammy Educator of the Year,” de los Santos said. “What brings me even more pride is having Santa Ana High School next to my name on the nomination. Santa Ana High School is such a vibrant community which makes it fun to work with students.”
This year’s winner will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards and Grammy Week events. The nine additional finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists will receive matching grants.
