Trabuco Hills High marching band seeks donations for 2020 Macy’s Parade performance

In March, the Thundering Mustangs of Trabuco Hills High School were ecstatic to learn they’ll be performing in the 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Now, with about 14 months to go before they’re scheduled to take their place in the iconic parade, more than 100 students from the award-winning marching band program are in full-fundraising mode to make sure their dream trip becomes a reality.

To that end, the schools’ instrumental music boosters have set up an online crowdfunding site.

“This endeavor is even more reliant on community, individuals and businesses as it will cost over $300,000 to get the students, staff and chaperones to the New York City,” says parent volunteer Amy Vivona.

Trabuco Hills already has 10 class championships and a 2017 appearance at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., but this will mark its first appearance at the Macy’s Day Parade, seen annually by more than 3.5 million live spectators and 50 million-plus remote viewers.

Vivona says the Thundering Mustangs squad will be one of six high school marching bands to travel down the two-mile parade route — and the only high school band from California.

“As the group continues to fundraise, they are looking to the community to help them get a jump start on the sponsorships and donations that are needed to make this a reality,” she says. “The directors want to see each and every student get on that plane for the trip of a lifetime.”

The 94th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020 in New York City, starting at 6 a.m. Orange County time.
