In the Orange County Department of Education athletics program, wins and losses are likely the least important focus for teams.
OCDE’s Freeway League focuses on participation, teamwork, camaraderie and other skills students can incorporate into the classroom and their overall daily lives. The competitive part of the sports league plays a secondary role.
The Freeway League — different from the CIF’s Orange County high school sports league — involves students from the different programs throughout OCDE’s Alternative, Community, and Correctional Education School and Services (ACCESS) program, including the Youth Leadership Academy and the Harbor Learning Center.
Students compete in sports that include basketball and flag football. Check out the video above for more on OCDE’s athletics league.
