With back packs filled, pencils sharpened and school lunches packed, tens of thousands of students across Orange County began arriving to campuses this week for the start of the 2018-19 school year.
August has now become the official start of the new year for most of the county’s 27 school districts. Los Alamitos Unified, Anaheim Elementary, Centralia, Cypress, Savanna and Anaheim Union High school districts all began classes this week.
Students from the other districts will begin flowing into schools through early September.
Here is a list of the first day of classes for the 27 districts.
Students returning to school this week were greeted by teachers, principals and other school staff with welcome signs, balloons, friendly smiles and even a few hugs.
Some parents, students and school staff chronicled the excitement of the first day on social media. Here are a sample of Twitter posts from some of the different campuses across the region.
