A student group from Foothill High School has created a series of ten stylized posters in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, each commemorating an important historical figure with an inspirational quote.
Designed by members of Foothill High’s Student Activists Club, the posters are being displayed on campuses throughout the Tustin Unified School District “to celebrate the diversity within the TUSD community and encourage students to reach their fullest potential, especially academically,” the district said.
A wide range of Asian American and Pacific Islander figures are represented, including those who’ve earned distinction in business, film, government, music, science and sports. Club members also featured the national bird and flower of the country associated with each figure’s heritage.
All posters are original designs by members of Foothill’s Student Activists Club, which consists of more than 60 students who encourage one another in examining a wide variety of social issues. Led by club President Bella Noriega, the group’s goal is to create more inclusive communities.
On a related note, the Orange County Department of Education is presenting a virtual forum in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12.
The event, hosted by County Superintendent Dr. Al Mijares, will feature a diverse panel of Asian American leaders who will share their personal experiences and insight on education, representative and recent anti-Asian incidents. Attendees can register at link.ocde.us/AAPI-forum.
