Celebrating the people behind school meals

The campaign began over the summer when the Dairy Council of California invited school nutrition departments to submit photos of employees posing with milk ahead of World School Milk Day on Sept. 30. The Got Milk? team transformed the submissions into promotional posters, complete with the familiar milk mustaches.

For Huntington Beach Union High School District, the collaboration grew into something bigger. With the Got Milk? team based nearby on Pacific Coast Highway, the Dairy Council arranged for a professional photo shoot at the district’s Nutrition Services office. The resulting images were featured on six bus stop advertisements near Huntington Beach High School.

The campaign also coincided with World School Milk Day activities at Westminster High School, where students participated in milk tastings, voting, prizes and photo opportunities.

“Being part of such a recognizable campaign was a fun and unexpected way to celebrate the work our team does every day,” Chiu said. “Seeing our colleagues and our superintendent featured in the Got Milk? campaign reminds us that getting milk into students’ hands takes a whole team working together. We’re proud to be part of something that brings visibility to school nutrition and the people behind it.”

Behind the campaign, the district’s Nutrition Services team provides free breakfast and lunch to students while creating opportunities to try new foods, participate in cultural food celebrations and learn about healthy eating through hands-on activities.

The six bus stop advertisements are expected to remain on display near Huntington Beach High School into November, giving community members a little more time to spot a familiar face from their local campuses.
