Last April, the Inside the Outdoors Foundation was announced as one of 10 national semifinalists in the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Helmet of Hope grant program sponsored by the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. And after a round of online voting, it finished among the top five charities.
That meant the Inside the Outdoors Foundation received a $25,000 cash grant, along with a Blue Bunny Ice Cream party and the chance to add its logo to Jimmie Johnson’s racing helmet during the NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
So how did the foundation make use of its grant funding? It installed a campus garden at a Southern California elementary school and put the rest toward Inside the Outdoors’ environmental education field trips and ITO’s popular Traveling Scientist program.
