The Buena Park School District will soon welcome Dr. Julienne Lee as its next superintendent, pending approval from the Board of Education on June 12.
Dr. Lee currently serves the Fullerton School District as associate superintendent of educational services. She leads oversight of the district’s nationally-ranked speech and debate team, an award-winning intervention program, and the Spanish and Korean dual-language immersion programs.
With a career spanning 26 years in education, Lee has worked in various positions as a dual-language immersion teacher, middle school English teacher, Response to Intervention coach, assistant principal and principal.
She’s expected to start her new position in July, succeeding interim Superintendent Dr. Yvette Cantu, who took on the role following Dr. Ramon Miramontes’ move to OCDE in March.
“I am thrilled and honored to be selected as the next superintendent for Buena Park School District,” Lee said. “The opportunity to lead and serve this diverse and inclusive community is a dream come true. I am excited to work collaboratively with staff, families and students to maximize everyone’s full potential.”
The Buena Park School District serves approximately 4,500 students from kindergarten through eighth grade across five elementary schools and two middle schools in Buena Park.
Lee has her bachelor’s degree in sociology and administrative services from the University of California, Riverside and a master’s degree in multicultural education from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She received her doctorate from the University of Southern California in organizational change and leadership.
Earlier this year, the Association of California School Administrators named Lee the Region 17 Administrator of the Year for curriculum and instruction, and for the implementation of educational programs that expand student learning. She also received a Women of Distinction award from the 29th Senate District in 2020.
“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Dr. Julienne Lee on her appointment as the new superintendent for Buena Park School District,” interim Superintendent Cantu said. “I have full confidence in her ability to guide our district toward its continued excellence.”
