OC Supervisor Nguyen, County Superintendent Bean to host student career exploration event on May 22

Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen and County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stefan Bean are teaming up to present a special event designed to connect students with career training opportunities, internships and other potential pathways to high-demand fields.

Empowering the Future: Internships & Career Exploration will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at Freedom Hall in Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley.

The event is open to students and families throughout the region, and walk-ins are welcome. Food and refreshments will be provided, and the first 200 attendees will receive a free gift.

Organizers say the goal is to showcase career and technical education, or CTE, and the many ways it can help students earn early college credit, gain certifications or prepare for fulfilling careers while they’re still in high school.

Attendees will have a chance to learn about hands-on internship and training programs while exploring high-wage fields such as film, cybersecurity and aviation. They’ll also hear directly from students during a moderated panel, and parents will have a chance to access resources to help support their child’s career planning.

“This event is about showing students and families what’s possible,” said County Superintendent Dr. Stefan Bean. “Career and technical education opens doors to meaningful opportunities, and we want to make sure every young person in Orange County knows what’s available and how to get started.”

While this month’s career exploration event will be led by Supervisor Nguyen and OCDE, it’s being presented in collaboration with the Garden Grove Unified School District, the Huntington Beach Union High School District and the Westminster School District, along with Golden West College, Cypress College, Fullerton College’s Career Education department and Coastline College.

Freedom Hall is located within Mile Square Regional Park at 16801 Euclid Street in Fountain Valley. Free parking will be available in lots G and H.

Those interested in attending can RSVP online using the QR code on the flier, but registration isn’t required.
