For most students, the 2023-24 school year is rapidly approaching, but the timeline is going to look a little different from district to district.
In fact, while some campuses are just days away from opening their doors — and a few charter schools have already started — others still have several weeks of summer vacation remaining.
The Savanna School District will be the first district in Orange County to kick off the academic year when its classes resume on Aug. 7. By contrast, the Huntington Beach City School District starts back up exactly one month later on Sept. 7. All other district start dates will fall somewhere in between, with nearly half welcoming back their students the week of Aug. 14.
It’s important to note that while start dates vary, all schools in Orange County follow the state-mandated requirement of providing students with 180 instructional days over the course of an academic year. Those districts that start a few weeks earlier also end a few weeks earlier, and vice versa.
Below is your yearly rundown of all school start dates in Orange County, including charter schools. Note that most of these only apply to schools on the traditional calendar. For year-round start dates, be sure to check your local school or district’s website.
