Los Angeles Angel pitches message of perseverance to Garden Grove students

Angels pitcher Andrew Heaney with Garden Grove studentsStudents from two campuses in the Garden Grove Unified School District received a special visit this week from Los Angeles Angels Pitcher Andrew Heaney and radio host Roger Lodge.

Making an appearance at Peters K-3 and Peters 4-6 elementary schools, Heaney, who is currently recovering from elbow ligament replacement surgery, pitched some encouraging words about setting goals, overcoming obstacles and the importance of teamwork. The left-hander also fielded questions from students, offering an insider’s look at the life of a professional baseball player.

“This was one school assembly our students will never forget,” Board of Education trustee Walter Muneton said. “It is exciting for our students to see firsthand what can be accomplished if you work hard and never give up.”

The May 31 visit was organized through the Angels Baseball Foundation’s Adopt-A-School Program. In addition to the assembly, the Angels Baseball Foundation donated $2,000 to the school and a school supplies pack for every student. Peters’ students also received tickets to an Angels game.
