OCDE in 30: Does your school have an Academic Pentathlon team?

You tend to hear more about the Academic Pentathlon in the spring, when teams of middle schoolers are preparing for the county competition.

But now’s the time when schools are assembling their squads and recruiting new talent for 2018-19, so we thought we’d help spread the word.

If you’ve not heard of the Academic Pentathlon, it’s a five-event competition for grades six, seven and eight. Nine-member teams, comprising students with varying grade-point averages, rack up points based on their knowledge of literature, math, science, social science and the fine arts.

“Academic Pentathlon is all about having fun, learning and making friendships that will last a lifetime,” says Project Liaison Ron Segundo, who explains a bit more in our latest edition of “OCDE in 30 Seconds.” Take a look.
