In an effort to empower school leaders to lead with purpose and overcome self-doubt, OCDE is set to host the Dare to Lead: Leadership Intensive Experience on Oct. 29, Oct. 30 and Nov. 7. Led by Tovi Scruggs-Hussein, the three-day event will take place at OCDE’s Argosy site in Orange, California.
The sessions will focus on building leadership skills and exploring how they can be enhanced through personal growth and courage. In addition, attendees can expect to develop their self-awareness, emotional intelligence and confidence.
Tovi, who served as a high school principal for 17 years, has dedicated her life to wellness and self-improvement. Her passion for education and personal development inspired her to integrate these fields, leading to significant positive changes in both her personal and professional life.
Her seminar draws from the book “Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown, a research professor at the University of Houston who specializes in courage, shame, vulnerability and empathy. Brown’s work is largely centered on the belief that people must invest in their humanity, especially in the face of technological advancement and the evolution of AI.
The retreat will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will include breakfast and lunch each day. Afterward, participants will receive a certificate of completion. They can also put a unique Dare to Lead Trained badge on their Linkedin account and will qualify to be Dare to Lead Teams coordinators.
