Looking for a fun and educational way to keep your child engaged this summer? Look no further than Inside the Outdoors’ Summer Day Camp, where campers will learn about various aspects of nature through camp songs, skits, games and activities.
From June 23 to Aug. 1, ITO will host five weekly summer camps at the Shipley Nature Center in Huntington Beach, each with their own theme for campers ages 6 to 12. Leadership opportunities will be available for campers ages 13 to 17.

Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with early drop off starting at 8:30 a.m. An extended camp option is also available until 4 p.m. for an additional fee.
The first week, titled “Naturalist Academy,” will teach campers essential camping skills, including how to leave nature better than they found it, through games and science-based activities. In the second week, “Crittertopia” will introduce campers to various animals, culminating in the Animal Olympics.
The third week’s theme, “Hike Through the Galaxy,” will teach campers about the stars and the cosmos through space-themed games and crafts. In the fourth week, “Adventures in the Wild” will focus on navigating using maps, compasses and natural signs. The final week, “Eco Explorers,” will teach campers the importance of preserving and protecting nature for future generations.
OCDE’s School and Community Outreach Manager Yarib Dheming shared insights into the value of the camp.
“For 18 years, Inside the Outdoors’ Summer Day Camp has inspired young minds through hands-on science, nature exploration and leadership opportunities,” Dheming said. “Each week is a new adventure, designed to spark curiosity and create lifelong memories in the great outdoors.”
