OK, so this is pretty cool.
A junior from Beckman High School in the Tustin Unified School District was recently honored through the Young Innovators to Watch program after developing a smartphone app that helps emergency responders locate disaster victims.
Sara Du, 16, was recognized on Jan. 7 at the popular Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where she received a $2,000 scholarship and other prizes. Her app, called Bluejay, would enable cell phones to transmit GPS coordinates and other data to an overhead drone, which could return to its base and alert rescuers in the event of an emergency.
In the two-minute video above, Sara talks about her award-winning project and explains how it came to be. Check it out.
