Quick look: OCDE’s College and Career Preparatory Academy celebrated 166 graduates during its 2026 commencement ceremony, marking one of the largest graduating classes in the program’s history. The free public charter school supports students ages 16 to 25 in earning their diplomas via flexible learning options and personalized support.
Cheers and tears filled the room as College and Career Preparatory Academy graduates crossed the stage at Orange Coast College to receive their high school diplomas.

Among them were two graduates who shared the moment with their young son by their sides, turning an individual achievement into a milestone for their entire family.
The ceremony over the summer celebrated 166 graduates, marking one of the largest classes in the history of the public charter school operated by the Orange County Department of Education. For many students, earning a diploma represented years of perseverance while balancing school with work, parenting and other responsibilities.
Since 2015, the free public charter program has served students ages 16 to 25, offering flexible academic options and personalized support to help them complete high school and prepare for college, career training or the workforce.
Last year, CCPA introduced a new 155-credit graduation pathway for students ages 19 and older, reducing the overall credit requirement while maintaining existing requirements in English, math, science and social studies. The change is designed to make graduation more attainable for adult learners.
During the ceremony, CCPA Principal Fatinah Judeh reflected on the many experiences graduates had entering the program and the different paths they took to reach the milestone.
“When you walked through CCPA’s doors, you brought more than credits to complete,” Judeh said. “You brought work schedules, family responsibilities and stories no transcript could ever fully tell. Your path here may not have been straight, but a straight path is not the only path to pride.”
OCDE Associate Superintendent Maria Martinez-Poulin, Ed.D., also addressed the graduates by reflecting on her own educational journey after immigrating to California from Mexico at age five. She credited her family with helping her persevere through challenges.
“I had a mother who believed deeply in the power of education,” Dr. Martinez-Poulin said. “Her belief in me gave me the confidence to keep moving forward even though the path was not easy.”
