In response to the closures of nearly all public schools across the region, PBS SoCal has created an At-Home Learning program aimed at helping provide free educational resources to students across partner television channels and through an online platform.
The program was created in collaboration with Los Angeles Unified School District, which helped craft instructional materials that adhere to the state’s educational standards.
On television, KLCS-Channel 58 with regional partners PBS SoCal/KOCE-Channel 50 and KCET-Channel 28 will offer daily lessons in math, English, science, social studies and other core subjects during morning hours.
While KLCS is offering content for grades 3 through 8, the KCET channel is offering high school-level programming. And KOCE is managing preschool through grade 2. Viewers can check channel listings to see a schedule of programming.
The goal is to provide a source for at-home instruction for students who might not have access to the internet, KCET CEO Andrew Russell told Variety.
Online, students have access to instructional videos, readings and other educational material categorized by grade level and subject.
Russell said that by offering content through television broadcasts and online, the At-Home Learning program can be available to most if not all students across the greater Los Angeles region, which includes Orange County.
