Buena Park School District Superintendent Dr. Ramon Miramontes was recently recognized for his educational leadership by the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA), which named him a 2021 Superintendent of the Year.
Miramontes was presented as the “Honoring Our Own” awardee for Region 6 — which includes San Diego, Orange, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino counties — for demonstrating exceptional leadership in advancing equity and success for Latino students and their families during the 2020-21 school year, according to a district press release.
“This award is a very humbling experience, but it is not my award alone. To me, this recognition is about the tireless work of everyone in our district,” Miramontes said in a statement. “I’m lucky and honored to work with the best teachers, staff and administrators in the country – their work means our students are succeeding, growing and getting better every day.”
Since arriving in Buena Park in 2018, Miramontes has developed and expanded a variety of services to serve the district’s more than 4,500 students. More specifically, during the COVID-19 pandemic he extended online student support time, implemented regular award events to encourage students to persevere and established a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park that allows students to use the Club’s facilities and internet.
During his more than 30 year career in education, Miramontes has served as a classroom teacher, middle school assistant principal, elementary and K-8 principal and director of personnel at Norwalk-La Mirada Unified and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
