Orange County administrators and other educational leaders are invited to attend a conference on Multi-Tiered System of Supports, or MTSS, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15.
You may not have heard of MTSS, but the term is becoming more familiar among educators throughout the state. Essentially, it’s a comprehensive framework that schools are using to address each student’s academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs, and it relies on staff collaboration and data-driven decision-making. The California Department of Education has more here.
The second annual MTSS Conference, presented by the Orange County Department of Education’s Instructional Services Division, promises to get into the “how” of MTSS, including how to build on strengths and sustain what works. The April 15 event will be held at Brandman University in Irvine, and the cost to attend is $150 per person or $125 per person for teams of three.
The conference’s featured speaker is Dr. Michelle Duda, a researcher who will demonstrate how to launch and sustain MTSS at a school using implementation science. Breakout sessions will cover specific implementation practices and MTSS in the context of special populations.
