This week, the Anaheim Convention Center has become a hub for educational innovation, hosting more than 3,000 educators for the 7th annual California MTSS Professional Learning Institute.
The three-day event was organized by the Orange County Department of Education in partnership with the Butte County Office of Education to share strategies for making learning more individualized, engaging and effective.
Under the theme “Inspire, Innovate and Thrive,” the conference is specifically showcasing scores of workshops and presentations aligned with the California Multi-Tiered System of Support. As we’ve previously shared, California MTSS is a framework for addressing students’ academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs, leveraging collaboration, data and targeted interventions.
Presentation topics range from integrating career education within the MTSS framework and innovative applications of new technologies to addressing students’ mental health needs and strategically using data to boost educational outcomes.
“Here at the conference, we have plethora of speakers who are really providing an opportunity for educators across California and nationally to come and understand best practices on really how to improve classroom instruction, as well improve culture and climate,” OCDE Chief Academic Officer Dr. Sonia Llamas said.
“It’s really about that infusion of ensuring that students have a strong sense of belonging, and that we optimize every opportunity for students to be the best versions of themselves,” she said.
The PLI began Tuesday, July 16 and continues through Thursday, July 18. Attendees include classroom educators, district leaders, school counselors, psychologists, mental health clinicians and representatives from higher education and community-based organizations.
