Over 150 student and adult volunteers came together on Saturday morning to clean up Huntington State Beach while learning about the ecosystem and protecting natural resources. The effort was part of this year’s Earth Day activities, dedicated to building awareness and activism in support of environmental programs around the world.
Inside the Outdoors’ Youth Stewardship Council hosted the event with support from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board and Wells Fargo Bank. Volunteers from Brea Olinda High School, Laguna Hills High School, St. Barbara Catholic School in Santa Ana, the Disneyland Resort, Fluor Corporation, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo and Orange Coast Community College participated in the cleanup.
The Inside the Outdoors Youth Stewardship Council is a youth-led network comprised of students from ten Orange County high schools. Students and mentors design and implement environmental action projects on school campuses and in local communities. Service-learning projects build the foundation for change by empowering youth to take action, allowing them to identify and analyze needs and giving them the opportunity to implement projects that improve and strengthen communities, all while having fun.
