WATCH: Orange County peer learning lab promotes unified physical education at Travis Ranch School

From playing jump rope to learning archery with plastic bows and arrows, students of all abilities are taking part in physical education activities in the unified physical education program at Travis Ranch School.

The Orange County Department of Education recently hosted its latest physical education peer learning lab on March 6, inviting educators to observe a unified P.E. class and gather best practices to implement similar curriculum for students with disabilities at their school sites. Watch the video above produced by OCDE’s Media Services team to see the learning lab activities in action.

During their physical education class period, general education students who serve as peer models at the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District campus paired up with students with disabilities before participating in a variety of inclusive games and sports included in the general P.E. curriculum.

“The Orange County PE Peer Learning Lab is an opportunity for teachers and leaders to observe strategies and wonderful teaching practices in live action with students taking place on a school campus,” said Allyson Reeds, OCDE’s coordinator of physical education. Teachers in attendance also received an onsite training that covered topics related to physical education curriculum and proposed solutions to obstacles teachers may be facing.
