Ocean View School District Superintendent Dr. Carol Hansen has announced she’ll retire from the district in July 2022, capping a 37-year career in public education.
“I am so proud to have been associated with everyone in the Ocean View School District community,” Hansen said in a statement. “It was an honor to work with our trustees, staff, and community on the important work we do on behalf of students.”
Hansen, who has spent the past seven years as Ocean View’s top administrator, is credited with developing innovative initiatives such as a new dual language immersion program, a STEM academy, and multiple renovation projects across the district.
“I have known Dr. Hansen for 16 years and had the pleasure of working with her as both a fellow educator and a Board member,” said OVSD Board of Education President Gina Clayton-Tarvin. “She has always been committed to collaborative problem-solving with employees and maintaining a laser-like focus on what is best for students. Dr. Hansen created core values of innovation, integrity, and equity in our district, and her adherence to those values restored the community’s confidence and pride in our schools.
Before arriving in Ocean View, Hansen served as the assistant superintendent of human resources in the ABC Unified School District. She then went on to assume multiple roles in the Westminster School District including assistant principal, middle school principal, director of classified personnel, and assistant superintendent of human resources. Her early career was spent serving as a high school teacher, coach, and activities specialist in the Long Beach Unified School District.
Ocean View serves about 8,000 students in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Westminster and Midway City.
The OVSD school board said it has appointed a sub-committee to begin the search process to find the district’s next superintendent.
