Summer is right around the corner, and with that comes Inside the Outdoors’ annual Summer Day Camp — where campers will learn about various aspects of nature through camp songs, skits, games and activities.
From July 6 to July 31, ITO will host four weekly summer camps at the Shipley Nature Center in Huntington Beach, each with their own theme for campers ages 6 to 12. Leadership opportunities will be available for campers ages 13 to 17.

Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with early drop off starting at 8:30 a.m. An extended camp option is also available until 4 p.m. for an additional fee.
Each week of camp will feature camp songs and skits, small group activities, plus games and choose-your-own-adventure activities with camp staff.
The first week, titled “Animal & Habitat Explorers,” will take campers through a variety of environments, where they will journal their observations. From redwood and oak forests to coastal sage scrub and even pond habitats, campers will discover which animals live in each ecosystem and how they survive in the wild.
In the second week, “Creature Keepers,” the focus shifts entirely to animals. Campers will meet a variety of species up close and learn how to care for them through games and crafts, including building their own animal first aid kits.
The third week, “K-Pop Bug Hunters,” blends music with nature through crafts, games and plenty of dancing. Each activity is inspired by both insects and music, offering a unique and high-energy approach to learning about bugs.
The final week, “Animal Superheroes,” highlights the natural “superpowers” animals use to survive in the wild. Through superhero-themed projects, campers will tap into their creativity and maybe even unlock superpowers of their own.
