It’s still early August, but thousands of students across Orange County are already back inside classrooms.
Anaheim Union High School District, Centralia School District, Cypress School District and Savanna School District were the first in the county to start their school year when classes began this week.
The 24 other school districts in the county will begin classes now through Sept. 7.
Students returning to school this week were greeted by teachers, principals and other school staff with welcome signs, balloons, friendly smiles and even a few hugs.

Western High in Anaheim hosted an assembly to welcome the new freshman class, new teachers and other staff. At Oxford Academy in Cypress, seniors held up a large “welcome” sign in the school’s colors (red, white and blue) to greet new and returning classmates.
Throughout the next month, OCDE Newsroom will track on social media the first school days of campuses across the county. If you want to share photos and messages from your school, add #FirstDayinOC to your posts.
Here is a list of the first day of school for traditional calendars for each of the county’s 27 school districts.
