Tens of thousands of Orange County students are returning to school this week, welcomed at campuses by balloons, high-fives and hugs from their teachers, principals and other staff.
August has now become the official start of the new year for most of the county’s 27 school districts. Los Alamitos Unified, Anaheim Elementary, Centralia, Cypress, Savanna and Anaheim Union High school districts all began classes this week.
Students from the other districts will begin flowing into schools through early September.
Some parents, students and school staff chronicled the excitement of the first day on social media. Here’s a sample of Twitter posts from some of the different campuses across the region.
